If anyone is like me, Sundays are my favourite day of the week, lazy mornings in bed with a book and a candle, family time, Sunday lunches, movie afternoons, a cheeky glass of wine and on some Sundays, pyjamas all day! There is just something about the slowness of it all, you don’t want it to end. But around 7pm, I get the Sunday anxiety belly. NOOOO! The rush to bath the kids, get uniforms ready, packed lunches made and the dreaded thoughts of the school and work commutes.
To help knock these on the head a little, I always try to take some time for myself before bed, when the girls are asleep, by running a hot bath, putting on a face mask, pouring a glass of wine and reading my latest book. I have recently been doing meditation and yoga too, which has really helped quieten down the negative worries, so ill do a post on these really soon.
Everyone’s idea of self-care will be different, and what works for one might not work for someone else. But I have put together a weekly self-care checklist that I think everyone should take time to do at least a few of them through the week, remember, your well being and happiness is so important to you and everyone around you.
So, my lovely people, lets take care of ourselves starting right now!
* Take deep breaths 5 Minutes
* Stretch your body 5 Minutes
* Listen to your favourite song 5 Minutes
* Meditate 15 Minutes
* Read a chapter of your book 15 Minutes
* Journal your thoughts/Ideas 15 Minutes
* Take a walk 30 Minutes
* Cook a plant based meal 30 Minutes
* Take a long soak in a bubble bath 30 Minutes
I even like to mix these up a little (I can be rock n roll now and then), like how about a cup of coffee in the bath while listening to your favourite music? Putting on a dancey tune in the kitchen while cooking a new meal? Once you start doing a few of these things that bring you joy, you’ll start to see a huge difference, everything just slightly lighter and brighter.
And last but not least, light a candle! The warm glow and your favourite scent is always a sure way to make you feel happy.
Let us know what things you do to take care of you?
